Old Stuart Town Gaol

Overseen by the National Trust, the Old Stuart Town Gaol was built in 1908 and is reportedly the oldest building standing in Alice Springs. Situated between the Police Station and the Courthouse, the historic building is open to the public Monday to Saturday, March to December.

Alice Springs Old Courthouse

Used as the Alice Springs Courthouse from 1929 until 1980, the Old Courthouse now houses the National Pioneer Women's Hall of Fame museum and interpretive centre. The building was originally built in 1927.

Old Hartley Street School

This simple school was built in 1930 and it was from the school that the first broadcast of Central Australia's School of Air was made in 1950. Today the historic building is overseen by the National Trust and brochures are available on site.

Alice Springs Telegraph Station

Situated just a few kilometres north of town, the Alice Springs Telegraph Station Historical Reserve indicates the original site of the area's first European settlement, which was established in the 1870s. The station, which is the most well-preserved of 12 such stations along the Overland Telegraph Line relayed messages between Darwin and Adelaide. The reserve is open year round, between 8am and 9pm, guide tours available by appointment.

The Residency Historic Site

Part of the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT), The Residency, is a restored, early-1930s home. The building, originally the residence of Central Australia's Government Resident, was an important social venue for the area.
