Old Stuart Town Gaol + My Favorites
Overseen by the National Trust, the Old Stuart Town Gaol was built in 1908 and is reportedly the oldest building standing in Alice Springs. Situated between the Police Station and the Courthouse, the historic building is open to the public Monday to Saturday, March to December. This simple school was built in 1930 and it was from the school that the first broadcast of Central Australia's School of Air was made in 1950. Situated just a few kilometres north of town, the Alice Springs Telegraph Station Historical Reserve indicates the original site of the area's first European settlement, which was established in the 1870s. The station, which is the most well-preserved of 12 such stations along the Overland Telegraph Line relayed messages between Darwin and Adelaide.
