Born out of the Royal Flying Doctor Service, the Alice Springs School of Air operates as a correspondence school for over 100 school children in Central Australia's remote one million sq km (over 350,000 sq mi). Originally, the school reached students via high-frequency radio lessons but in 2005 switched to interactive distance learning using the Internet. The visitors centre is open daily and, if visiting during school operating hours, visitors can watch live lessons. Address: 80 Head St | Alice Springs, NT | 0870 Tel: +61 (0) 8 8951 6834

Dinky - A Singing Dingo + My Favorites
Ever see a dingo? Ever hear one that can sing? 90 km south of Alice Springs is Jim's place, where the food is good and the entertainment is even better. See emus too, wandering in their pens. If one's on the way to Ayer's Rock, best be sure to make a stop at Jim's to check out this hilarious natural phenomenon. Address: Jim's Place, South Stuart Hwy, NT [ Map ]
